The Orangutan tours we provide are not only holidays, but a truly special window into human evolution. Orangutans, the only great ape in Asia, share 97 % of their DNA with human beings and fittingly, ‘orangutan’ means man of the forest. The Orangutan Guided Tours highlight all of our shared similarities with these special great apes. We will visit 3 Orangutan feeding stations. We deeply respect the Orangutans so there is no initiating contact with them. However, sheer awe and amazement are encouraged! We provide truly unique wildlife experiences, and most importantly, the opportunity to see Asia’s Great Apes. Staying on the traditional wooden houseboat called Kelotok is an unforgettable memory that will last a lifetime. Itinerary: Day 1 Pangkalan Bun – Kumai – Tanjung Harapan Camp Upon arrival in Pangkalan Bun you’ll be met and transferred to Kumai for boarding to the Kelotok. Leaving Kumai River, you’ll have an opportunity to see riverfront life. Borneo has so many rivers so the boat is the main transportation here. May you also see a thousand high buildings like a hotel with tiny holes, such as an semi-wild swift poultry to harvest its nest. Then, cruising to Sekonyer River, the estuarine habitat with unique vegetation called mangrove, before your first stop to Tanjung Harapan Camp to watch Orangutan feeding at 15.00 o’clock. Watch along the river bands for wildlife such as Proboscis Monkey-the endemic monkey in Borneo, Long-tailed Macaque, Red-leaf Monkey, Silvered Langur, or birdlife along the riverside. After watching Orangutan, then continue on cruising up for overnight in the Kelotok. You’ll have time to relax, enjoy fresh air, or do some primate spotting in the roosting tree while the boat finding out a good place to tie up. Meals Provided L D Day 2 Sekonyer River-Canoeing to Sungai Buluh-Tanjung Harapan Community support by providing alternate green jobs for locals. Accompanied by Villager, you will enjoy a jungle walk for approximately 3,5 hours. It is just remind us to the Birute Galdikas quote “ as I sit, my back leaning againist a damp, moss-covered tree trunk, my eyes sweeping the canopy above, my ears straining to catch the crack of a distant branch that betrays an orangutan moving in the treetops. Your walk will meet a small balck water river where another man from the village waiting you with a small canoe. You will have an experience to ride a small canoe just like a local, paddling down to the artery river in the jungle, where your kelotok houseboat is awaiting. Lunch will be provided on the boat. After your short break, boat will cruise and challenge you for wildlife spoƫting. Next, we cruising to the downstream in Sungai Sekonyer, our next destination is Tanjung Harapan. Orangutan feeding will be 15.00 in the afternoon. You also can continue a river cruising and wildlife spotting, including Proboscis monkey in the roosting trees. It will be really interesting if you can be found the most 3 important to figure out a dominant, one of them is big nose. Looking for a good place to have dinner beneath fireflies. If the weather good (no rain, no wind) we can see a million of fireflies like a christmas tree, but we can’t quarantee about this. We will try to do best effort and find out the best place. Meals Provided B L D Day 3 Pondok Tanggui – Camp Leakey – Sekonyer River After a sunrise breakfast, cruising up the river to Pondok Tanggui, Orangutan feeding time at 09.00 am, then continue on to Camp Leakey, the legendary Orangutan Rehabilitation Camp, where Prof. Birute MF. Galdikas started her study in early 1971. Boating a side creek through tea-colored water where you will see the magnificent reflection from the vegetation along the river, when lucky with you, the freshwater crocodile and other wildlife attractions could find a long river band. After having lunch and departing to Camp Leakey, we can spend the rest of the day hiking through the Borneo rainforest, exploring peat swamp forest, lowland dipterocarp habitat, searching for wildlife, or enjoying varieties of fungi, orchids, slipper orchids, mosses, and ferns, then enjoying Orangutan feeding time at 14.00 pm. Stay overnight on the boat. Meals Provided B L D * An optional activities night walk for nocturnal wildlife will be offered in the first or second night due to the condition. Day 4 Sekonyer Village – Kumai – Pangkalan Bun After breakfast, continue by Kelotok down river to Sekonyer Village, the orangutan-friendly village which moved when the National Parks area is getting wider. An old settlement of mixed culture just next to the National Park. You will have a half hour walking to see the village, people daily life and their activities, including how they get fresh water by rain harvesting. The boat will continue to cruise down the river, and wildlife spotting is not over yet. Enjoying your coffee in the boat while exploring the river in the morning, may you meet the Orangutan foraging in the trees around riverbank. It will offer you an incredible experience. Long-snout Crocodiles may sun-busking on the river bank when the weather really good. Departing Kumai, you’ll be transferred to Pangkalan Bun, possible to visit Orangutan souvenir and handicraft gallery before your next destination.
